Grants from the Saratoga Foundation have addressed a wide array of community needs

Community-Wide Projects

  • Saratoga Film Forum to purchase new digital projector required by industry’s conversion to digital technology
  • Saratoga Center for the Family a $10,000 grant to replace many items that were lost in the fire at their facility and were not covered by insurance
  • SUNY Adirondack Foundation to help equip their new Saratoga County Extension Center in Wilton
  • Saratoga Springs Community Garden at Wesley for the construction of 52 raised beds, including 5 that are tall enough to be used by people in wheel chairs. community garden 2communitygarden
  • Saratoga Farmer’s Market  for pavilions to provide shelter from the elements for farmers and customers and allowed the market to expand from its previous location in a downtown parking lot
  • Saratoga Carousel to build a magnificent architectural space to house this historical treasure in its new location in downtown Saratoga Springs
  • City Wading Pools to help the city adhere to state guidelines and prevent the closure of city wading pools in the East Side and West Side Recreational parks
  • Universal Preservation Hall to help save the historic building on Washington Street and renovate it for use as a downtown performance venue
  • The Bolster Collection for the production of a video to preserve the pictorial history of Saratoga Springs

Projects in the Arts and Education

  • Saratoga Arts to support renovation of the old library building on Broadway to bring high-quality arts programs to downtown Saratoga
  • Caffé Lena to help America’s oldest continuing coffee house acquire its building
  • Children’s Museum to help renovate its new facility on Caroline Street
  • Shakespeare in the Park to offer free, high-quality performances of Shakespearean plays each summer in Congress Park
  • Saratoga Performing Arts Center to support a new program to encourage young adults’ attendance at live classical performances
  • Opera Saratoga to offer opera education in local schools and community venues through live performances of operas based on children’s classics (Jack and the Beanstalk in 2011).

Projects in Health and Social Services

  • Code Blue Shelter to help with the expense of moving the shelter to the Salvation Army building on Woodlawn Ave
  • CAPTAIN Youth and Family Services to begin a new program “Getting Ahead in a Just Getting By World” to help low income individuals and families to break the cycle of poverty
  • Shelters of Saratoga for construction of an addition to their current facility to accomodate increased needs in the community
  • LIVESTRONG Program at the Saratoga Y which provides memberships to cancer survivors to help rebuild strength and stamina lost during cancer treatments
  • Legal Aid Society of Northeastern NY to purchase the former home of the Saratoga County EOC headquarters at 40 New Street
  • Community Health Resource Center to support Saratoga Hospital’s construction of a new facility to provide a place for people to turn when they need health care and can’t afford it
  • Saratoga Hospital to support its expanded and remodeled Emergency Room
  • Saratoga County Economic Opportunity Council to help build its new facility, with increased capacity and ease of access to its clients
  • Community Hospice of Saratoga to contribute to their capital campaign designed to provide increased services to the community
  • Saratoga Affordable Housing to acquire a block of affordable housing units for moderate-income families in Saratoga Springs
  • Senior Citizens Center to enclose a faulty heating duct system to make an important meeting space usable

Projects in Parks and Recreation

  • Caroline Street School PTSO to purchase new playground equipment to replace outdated equipment at East Side Rec
  • Saratoga Greenbelt Trail for their project to connect existing trails with the City of Saratoga Springs into one ten-mile trail
  • Friends of Grant’s Cottage to provide some financial assistance needed as a result of the closing of the State prison facility adjacent to Grant’s Cottage
  • Spirit of Life and Spencer Trask Memorial for needed restoration that will ensure the preservation of this important community symbol and National Historical Landmark in Congress Park
  • Saratoga Rowing Association to support construction of its new boathouse on Saratoga Lake
  • Saratoga YMCA to help build its state-of-the-art facility that serves more than 20,000 members of our community
  • Saratoga Spa State Park to contribute to its Centennial Project to upgrade the springs and park facilities
  • Yaddo Garden Association to help restore the garden’s deteriorating pergola
  • Ten Springs Woods Park to develop a springhouse for Excelsior Spring and create a 15-acre park in the area known to the * Mohawks as the Valley of Ten Spring Woods
  • Spirit of Life in Congress Park to help with the restoration of the Daniel Chester French statue and surrounding garden area
